Georges Schwizgebel urodził się w Szwajcarii, w 1944 roku. Po studiach na Ecole des arts décoratifs w Genewie pracował w agencji reklamowej, by w 1970 r., wraz z Claude Luyet i Danielem Suterem założyć GDS Studio. Wyprodukował i wyreżyserował 19 krótkich filmów animowanych, zrealizowanych głównie techniką malowanych arkuszy octanowych. Tworzył filmy, równolegle zajmując się plakatem i malowaniem fresków. Schwizgebela nagradzano w Cannes, Annecy, Zagrzebiu, Hiroszimie, Stuttgarcie, Ottawie i Espinho. Dwa jego obrazy, 78 R.P.M. (1985) oraz The Ride to the Abyss (1992), znalazły się na liście stu najbardziej znaczących filmów animowanych na Festival d'Annecy w roku 2006.
