The unique Hutsul culture of south-western Ukraine
will be discussed by Maciej Rychły and the author of documentary films
presented during the meeting, Krzysztof Krzyżanowski.
Krzysztof Krzyżanowski –
a historian by profession, journalist, reporter and a man of the
mountains. Fascinated by Hutsulshchyna – the sense of pride, freedom
and liberty of its inhabitants – he made a number of films about this
extraordinary region of Ukraine. Some of them will be screened during
the
meeting on Saturday.
Maciej Rychły – a psychologist by profession, multi-instrumentalist, composer,
cultural anthropologist, writer. Co-founder and leader of the legendary Jorgi
Quartet (Kwartet Jorgi). In the years 1989-2004, he was associated with the
„Gardzienice” Centre for Theatre Practices. He cooperates with
numerous theatres and universities and creates film music. In recent years, he
has composed music and participated in the productions of Song of the Goat
Theatre in Wrocław, such as „Songs of Lears”, "Cherry
Orchard„ and ”Return of The Voice".
The meeting about Hutsulshchyna will be accompanied by an exhibition of works
by Halyna Dudar, a Lviv-based artist whose work is clearly inspired by the
material culture of the Eastern and Southern Carpathians.
